    About Sun Peaks, BC

The second largest ski area in Canada, Sun Peaks is an ideal mountain resort for families. Its convenience, ample sunshine and accessibility serve as a perfect winter vacation destination for families or large groups, or anyone looking for an unforgettable Canadian ski vacation.

Situated at the center of three mountains—Tod Mountain, Sundance Mountain and Mount Morrissey—Sun Peaks has a whopping 4,200-plus acres of terrain, with two alpine bowls, 138 trails, including 19 gladed areas, and a 10 acre Terrain Park. Sun Peaks has an average snowfall of about 237 inches of snow per year covering the mountains with the light, dry powder, the interior of BC is well know for, but don’t forget the sunscreen! On average, Sun Peaks receives 2,000 hours of sunshine per year.

When après-ski time arrives, relax in Sun Peaks’ ski-through European-style village, which offers more than 20 restaurants, dozens of shops and boutiques and nine hotels connected by covered walkways. The restaurants in the village, from local pubs to fine dining, emphasize using local products on their menus including vegetables from local gardens, meats from a ranch north of Kamloops and cheeses from the Okanagan Valley, to name a few. One of the things that make Sun Peaks so desirable is its accessibility. Located only 45 minutes from the Kamloops Airport and less than three hours from the Kelowna International Airport, Sun Peaks offers a unique combination of a mountain stay and the comforts of a big city without the hassle of a long drive in the car.

    SKI SUN PEAKS

Conveniently, Sun Peaks terrain is almost naturally divided. Beginners and intermediates will find plenty of terrain on the lower portions of the mountain and around the base area village, while expert skiers will want to head to the resort’s 7,000-plus-foot summit to access steeps and powder bowls, and backcountry.

Sun Peaks offers cross-country skiers 19 miles of groomed Nordic trails and 12 miles of off-piste trails. There’s truly never a dull moment on a Sun Peaks ski vacation.

    Great snow, great mountain

My husband and I spent a weekend snowboarding at Sun Peaks to celebrate his birthday. We were amazed by the mountain terrains and snow condition. We had a lot of fun! We are definitely coming back.

Sun Peaks village may be small... there might not be a lot of lodging available for how big the mountain is but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Since the lodging is limited, you will want to book in advance, but you won't regret it. Sun Peaks is the second largest mountain in Canada next to Whistler Blackcomb.  The only thing you'll miss is the crowds.

The snow is soft, light and plentiful. The views are expansive and the runs wide and flowing.  If you want to escape even more go check out Morrisey!  It's not a far traverse and you'll feel like you're the only one out there... and you might be aside from the lifties!

The village itself is quite charming.  You can ski right in and have lunch along the village walkway or stop in for a coffee. There are shops and restaurants in plenty!

Overall, I would go back to Sun Peaks.  I found it charming and beautiful.
