    Engelberg-Titlis

    Great Swiss resort

We've been to Engelberg a few times - usually good snow on the mountain, even late in the season. The ski area is quite small, but good variety and amazing terrain. Resort is still filled with Swiss skiers, unlike resorts like Verbier. The town has a 'regular' feel to it, and a nice atmosphere. Recommend hiring a ski guide when you are there, if you can. We've stayed at a few hotels in the town - Spannort was quite nice, as was Cathrin. Best place was Chalet Espen. We're going back next year!\n

    great day

I have been here numorus times, after this, this was my first it was perfect great snow sunshine. I loked it. great place to do a little free ride in the powder. nothing serious. more of a chill relax day.

    Engelberg - A Great Value

Stayed at the Hotel Terrace. The all-inclusive package is one of the best values I've seen. All meals and an Apres-ski snack, soft drinks, beer, wine, tea, coffee from 10AM to 10PM, ski pass, and guide. The resort is really magical. Will go back for more.

Located in central Switzerland, Engelberg-Titlis is a charming little town with a rich monasterial history. Founded by the Benedictine monks in 1120, Engelberg has the feel of a very traditional Alpine resort, ringed by high peaks and spectacular views. When I visited Engelberg, I had no idea what to expect, but I was blown away by the unusual marriage of modern technology and old, grand buildings that characterizes Engelberg. On the one hand, you have the technological advancements, such as the Rotair cable car which is already becoming legendary, and the preservation of the glacial tunnel, which moves a little bit every year as the glacier itself is active. On the other hand, you have lovely old buildings such as the Hotel Terrace that look straight out of history books. It is a combination that works for Engelberg, and makes the entire resort feel like a fairytale.

I chose to explore the resort as a nonskier, and as such can report that Engelberg boasts a large variety of activities for skiers and nonskiers alike! For a fascinating historical perspective on the village, visit the Benedictine monastery and sample the cheese from the show cheese factory. You can also take the Titlis Rotair cable car up (the first rotating cable car in the world!) to the Titlis glacier walk, mentioned above, or experience the thrill of the Titlis Cliff Walk before taking a family photo dressed up in traditional Swiss garb!

Engelberg has a lot to offer, and with such a central location, it is easily accessible from the Zurich airport – about an hour and 20 minutes by car, or 2 hours via the excellent Swiss rail service.

Engelberg-Titlis is a wonderful Swiss family vacation village - complete with ringing church bells and plenty to do other than skiing!

This charming little village is just two hours from the Zurich Airport on the
efficient and easy train system. If you prefer a private shuttle, that
can be arranged as well. I would suggest ski school for a beginner skier,
and a guide on the first day for intermediate to advanced skiers to get the lay of the land. After skiing or on a day off, visit the local Monastery, the Cliff Walk, the Titlis Rotair (revolving Cable Car),the Mt. Titlis Glacier Cave or the Cheese Factory.

Regarding accommodations, the Hotel Terrace is a lovely hotel overlooking the village. A short stroll through the village brings you to their private elevator taking you up THROUGH the mountain to their entrance. Once inside experience a grand hotel (110 years old) with Marble pillars and a spacious sitting area. The rooms are comfortable and most have large balconies overlooking the village. Dining is casual and rates include breakfast.

Hotel Bellevue is undergoing a room renovation and will offer some of the most updated rooms in Engelberg-Titlis. It's location across from the train station makes it most one of the most accessible to skiing as well as the town for shopping and nightlife. This lovely hotel has wide hallways and very nicely appointed rooms with modern touches.  Adjoining rooms are available too for families who need a lot of room.  There is no pool/hot tub or spa at this property however, but breakfasts are included and they do a very nice après-ski throughout the winter season.

The Alpine Lodge Trubsee is very unique because it is a 20 minute cable car ride to get to the hotel and once there, it is not accessible to the village after the cable cars cease for the day. Trübsee Alpine Lodge is situated at 1,800 meters above sea level and is surrounded by a magnificent mountain landscape. The hotel's 31 rooms are perfect for anyone wishing to experience the mountains of Central Switzerland in all their
glory. The terrace for sun seekers offers a great view of Lake Trübsee and the surrounding mountains. Its "cow theme" really reflects the local culture based on daily production for the region. Breakfast is also included.
