Little known jewelWe spent a week in Alpe d'Huez in March with Mary-Claire and Leo.\nThe road up to the resort is amazing: hard to believe that the Tour de France uses this for the moutain climb! The skiing is great with spacious, well groomed runs that will meet everyones wishes. There are also off-piste runs for those with more gnarly tastes! Miles of trails that lead to quaint towns with wonderful restaurants and scenery.\nThe lift system is very good and has a wide variety of options: chairs, gondolas, etc. We stayed at the Pic Blanc, which is within walking distance of the slopes and apres shopping. It is a good 3 star hotel with very comfortable rooms and well appointed bathrooms. The "phone booth" for the free internet is a busy spot! There are fabulous views of the valley and mountains from every window. Ski rental is convenient and reasonable. Overall, an excellent place to ski and sleep!\n\nGary and Lisa Casey
Little known jewelWe spent a wonderful week with Mary-Claire and Leo in March at the Pic Blanc. The mountain road to Alpe d'Huez is incredible! Amazing to believe that the Tour de France use this for their mountain climbs! The scenery is breath-taking! Every where you look from the Pic Blanc the views are wonderful. The skiing is for every ability: challenges or cruising options. The on mountain restaurants are plentiful, atmospheric and delicious! So very French! The Pic Blanc is a good value 3 star hotel. The rooms are comfortable. The staff and management are visible and willing to make your vacation a pleasure. The "phone booth" for the free internet is a bonus.
Alpe d'Huez is a little-known treasureLeo and Mary Claire have picked another winner! Alpe d'Huez has a wide variety of slopes as well as trails to other villages. Good snow and well groomed with good lift access to all areas. Overall a great experience. We stayed at the Pic Blanc on the edge of town and were just a few steps away from the lifts. Food was great and the hotel staff was very good - a very comfortable place to stay. Those who rented equipment found it very easy to do. Didn't see much of the town since I spent all available hours on the slope but we enjoyed a concert in the church one evening. There are other activities also: dog sledding, hiking trails, ultra-light flights, snowcat tours, etc.\n\nBeverly Dickerson
